Admissions information

Stratford Girls’ Grammar School only accepts students who have passed the 11+ exam. Competition is high, with more than seven applicants for each place in recent years. The school intends to accept 120 students for entry into Year 7 in 2022.

Parents must register their child for the 11+ Exam in the year before the proposed admission of their child. Parents who live in Birmingham should register with The Grammar Schools in Birmingham. Parents who live elsewhere should register with the Warwickshire County Council Admissions Service. Registration for the exam opens in May and closes in June. Parents must also name Stratford Girls’ Grammar School on the Common Application Form of their Local Authority. The results of the 11+ Exam are unlikely to be released by the time parents must submit their Common Application Form.

To gain a place, children must pass the 11+ exam. Places are then allocated based on 11+ scores, but priority is given to students who live in the “Priority Circle”. This is a circle with a radius of just under 17 miles around Stratford.

Girls who are unsuccessful will automatically be placed on a waiting list. This list will also include girls who applied late or who registered late for the 11+ Exam. Girls who do not register for the exam in time may sit the exam the following March instead, and will be placed on the waiting list if they pass.

It is also possible to enter the school for sixth form. Anyone interested in this must complete and submit a form available on the school website.

Applicants sit the Exam in one session lasting around 3 hours, with a short break in the middle.

Sample test papers

Familiarisation papers, which provide a guide to the different kinds of questions to expect and how to answer them, are available on the website of The Birmingham Grammar Schools consortium. There are separate guides to comprehension, maths, non-verbal reasoning and word choice questions.

CEM, the exam provider, has also published familiarisation booklets for the maths and non-verbal reasoning parts of the exam. For the verbal reasoning component they have produced separate familiarisation booklets for comprehension questions and word choice questions.

Think Academy UK has compiled a guide to the CEM Assessment, which includes a great range of free resources and sample test papers.
